2 dead, 3rd hospitalized in South Carolina smoke shop shooting, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - Two people are dead and a third is in the hospital following a shooting at a smoke shop in Rock Hill, police said Thursday.

Officers responded to the incident around 9:41 p.m. at the Budiman's Smokeshop & Art Gallery on Cherry Road. A man and a woman were found on scene suffering from gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead on scene. A third female victim was also found shot and transported to an area medical center.

Officers learned a white male driving a Dodge truck may be the suspect and upon arrival, the suspect was seen getting into the vehicle with a gun, police said.

The suspect, 28-year-old Columbia resident Zachary Elias, confronted officers and one of the officers fired his weapon but did not hit him. Elias was arrested after being tased and subdued.

He faces multiple charges including murder and attempted murder.
