APEX, N.C. –  The daughter of one of the victims in the deadly shooting in Apex, is speaking out.

As the accused shooter, 37-year-old Harry Hardman, sits in jail facing life in prison without parole or the death penalty, Nancy Taylor's daughters are honoring her memory.

Lauren Rose misses her mom.

"I love, love my mom. She was my best friend. My hero," she said.

On Monday, 69-year-old Taylor was shot and killed outside of her Apex home. Rose spoke with her, just about an hour before. Then, Rose's sister called.

"She said that there was a large police presence at Mom's townhome. So, I started looking it up, Googling everything I could, and I noticed my mom's townhome. And that's when I just had a horrible feeling," explained Rose.

Investigators said former Army captain 37-year-old Hardman, who lived across the street, shot Taylor, their other neighbor, 37-year-old Gabrielle Raymond, and a dog.

Officers found multiple guns at his home. Rose told CBS17, Raymond was a close friend of her mother's.

"She spoke very highly of her, really loved her, was just a dear friend of hers," she added.

Rose also said her mother never mentioned Hardman before.  She had never heard his name until Monday.

"It's the hardest thing that I could ever go through. I think. I think right now, just trying to process it all and I know that the answer of why will never be answered," she explained. "I think what's keeping me going is how strong my mom was. And she would want us to stay strong."

That strength has echoed within the community. Neighbors are still shaken by the violence outside of their homes.

"I just walked with [Nancy] a few days ago. I feel blessed that I was able to have that last conversation, that last bit of time with her," said Caroline Zilli.

Zilli lives a few streets over and also owns a local coffee shop, Crumb & Cream.

She's working with Taylor's daughters and other neighbors to honor their HOA president, and to do something in her memory.

"[Nancy] loved chocolate, especially. And so they thought it would be sweet if I could come up with something that would honor her, that could be named after her so that our customers, our neighbors, our friends, the community would remember her," said Zilli.

Rose said she and her sister are heartbroken, but they're touched by the outpouring of support they're getting.

"Everyone we've talked to just has all these stories about my mom.  Sharing them with us is just so special," she said. "Hearing that my mom was known as the grandma of the neighborhood and that people knew her as the lady who walked the really old beagle...it's just those stories are so sweet to me and that makes me smile."

Rose said her mom's dog, Denny, is safe at her sister's house. She said they're thankful to have her mom's best friend with them during this difficult time.

Hardman is next set to be in court on Feb. 5.
