GREENSBORO, N.C. – Police released new details on Tuesday regarding the Greensboro homicide that left one woman dead in a car occupied by two children, according to a news release from the Greensboro Police Department.
Police are describing the killing as a "random act of violence."
On Sunday at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Greensboro Police Department responded to the intersection of Patton Avenue and South Elm-Eugene Street after reports of shots being fired in the area.
Upon arrival, police located a vehicle that had crashed into the fence in the area of South Elm-Eugene and Concord streets.
The victim was identified as Carolyn Rose Tiger, 26, of Greensboro. Rose was driving a black Nissan which was also occupied by two children at the time of the shooting, one of which was a small child in a car seat.
The victim’s vehicle was possibly involved in a minor traffic accident with what is described as a newer model light blue Hyundai type vehicle somewhere in the area of South Elm-Eugene and Meadowview Drive.
Both cars drove north on South Elm-Eugene to the area of Patton Avenue where the light blue Hyundai attempted to block in the victim’s vehicle.
The driver of the light blue Hyundai got out of his car and retrieved a rifle from his trunk and opened fire on the victim’s vehicle as it was attempting to leave the area northbound on South Elm-Eugene Street.
Tiger was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at Moses Cone Hospital. Witnesses last observed the light blue Hyundai leaving the area traveling east on Patton Avenue.
The driver of the light blue Hyundai was described as in his 20s and wearing blue jeans, a jacket and a black toboggan.
There has been no relationship established between the victim and the suspect and at this time the crime is being investigated as a random act of violence.
“I hope they catch this person,” Mary Enoch said on Tuesday, just 48 hours after the shooting. She lives just a few hundred yards away from the scene of the crime and told FOX8 that her children and grandchildren travel South Elm-Eugene Street regularly.
“It hurts me, because it could’ve been one of my kids,” she said.
Enoch did not witness the accident, but said she saw the heavily police presence near her street Sunday evening.
“My daughter was on her way to pick me up for church. She told me about all the police blocking our road,” she said.
